Position Summary:
The Barista | Café Bar Server @ the Roxy Hotel is a dual-role team member responsible for crafting high-quality coffee and espresso beverages while also delivering floor service and entry-level bartending support. This position provides a seamless guest experience by blending warm hospitality, technical beverage preparation, and light bar service in a café setting.
In addition to coffee and tea execution, the Barista/Bar Server is expected to assist with basic alcoholic beverage service such as beer, wine, and simple cocktails. This role requires an eye for detail, a guest-first mindset, and the ability to maintain pace and cleanliness across multiple service touchpoints. Compliance with Department of Health (DOH) standards and FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory practices are expected at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
o Greet and serve guests with professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail
o Prepare and serve espresso drinks, brewed coffee, teas, and specialty beverages to standard
o Take guest orders and enter them accurately into the POS system
o Serve wine, beer, and basic mixed drinks in accordance with menu and TIPS standards
o Maintain knowledge of coffee, tea, beer, and wine offerings, including ingredients and preparation
o Support beverage service in the café setting during service hours
o Ensure drink consistency in recipe, presentation, and temperature
o Maintain clean and stocked café, bar, and guest-facing areas
o Follow all DOH sanitation guidelines and FIFO procedures for all ingredients and supplies
o Accurately handle transaction settlements including room charges, credit cards, and cash payments
o Maintain accountability for guest checks and proper documentation of charges
o Assist in restocking, daily prep, and end-of-day breakdown
o Support service team with running drinks or light food when needed
o Communicate clearly with managers and team members to support smooth operations
Qualifications:
o 2+ year in a barista, café, or bar support role preferred
o Knowledge of coffee and espresso preparation and bar service fundamentals
o Willingness to learn entry-level bartending tasks (wine, beer, simple cocktails)
o Excellent communication and guest service skills
o POS and cash handling experience
o NYC DOH Certification required within 30 days of hire
o Familiarity with DOH standards and FIFO procedures
o TIPS or alcohol service certification required within 30 days of hire
o Flexible availability including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Ability to:
o Multitask and maintain composure in fast-paced service settings
o Provide warm and polished guest service in both counter and floor environments
o Learn and follow drink recipes and service standards consistently
o Work on your feet for prolonged periods and lift up to 25 lbs
o Safely operate espresso machines and bar tools
Work Environment:
o Café Area, Café Outdoors, kitchen areas and BOH Storage.
